Been busy moving. Did my back in today moving the fridge, which was the last major item. Still haven't remembered the camera for posting pics.

Kanye West
I've been listening to Late Registration a bit recently because I haven't put my CDs back in my car. I'm finding it hard to get sick of.
Not all the lyrics are so "worldly" but some are much more. The Christian influence speaks to me. Not in the same way as the soppy love songs to Jesus we sing in church. More Applied Theology?

When your mum (or wife) uses your middle name
I was reading a commentary on the Gospel of Mark this morning (as one does when preparing for an exam including exegeses of Mark) and came across some interesting points on Jesus' interactions with demons. The concept that naming something accurately allows control over it is mentioned. This seems to be common thinking at the time.
I wonder if the thruth of this is reflected in the way that mothers use our full names when they want to get our attention. Does this count as Applied Theology?

A new house
Today, we signed a rental agreement for a house in Karori. We take possession next week. Photos to follow soon.
This has been a long time coming, but it has been worth the wait. The house, section, location and price are all good.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church
Just in case you were wondering, this very handy resource is now online. This is much better than popping into the city libaray to look something up. I find Catholic doctrine a great place to start as they have acutally written down what they believe (as apposed to the Anglican Church which can't even agree within itself). The CCC is well cross-referenced.

More sermonising
I inflicted myself on the poor unsuspecting congregation at St Philip's this morning. They were all very nice and some even thanked me. The 7pm congregation get me tonight, but they asked for it, so I have no pity for them.

This is not a game
I tried to add a game from Google Gadgets but Blogger would not let me. I guess the <script> tag is potentially dangerous. Oh well.
More prison stuff
I went to a mentors' meeting tonight. It was good hear again about what the other people are doing and some of their experiences. I got a training manual and also picked up all the brochures from the host church (to add to my file of ideas to steal from other churches). I'm meeting my assigned prisoner tomorrow. Not sure how that will go, so I guess it will be a prayerful day.

On a lighter note

I played on the local pokies with a friend last night. I thought the scandal factor was pretty high: two Sunday school teachers, one a married man, the other an unmarried woman, drinking together and gambling. Not a bad effort. Perhaps in a strip club would have been ever better, but who wants to pay a cover charge?
Something with a bit more substance
I have uploaded the theology essay that I have just finished. The introduction is below. Click here to download the document.
The opening of Mark’s Gospel powerfully shows Jesus as associated with God and the Holy Spirit. As Messiah, Jesus brings about a new era. Mark’s depiction of the calling of the first disciples tells us something about the nature of discipleship. It is integral to Jesus ministry and is about the impact the disciple can have on others. Discipleship can also be a costly calling. This cost is paid in response to the authority of God’s only son.
